On 27th April 2023, SarcoidosisUK and The Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals hosted their annual Sarcoidosis Patient Day. If you missed any of the talks, or would like to watch them again, click the links below to see the recordings and transcripts for each session.

The 2023 Sarcoidosis Patient Day Speakers

Dr Vasilis Kouranos

Dr Vasilis Kouranos is a consultant respiratory physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital. He has great experience in management of patients with sarcoidosis, interstitial lung disease and pulmonary fibrosis. 

Dr Felix Chua

Dr Felix Chua is a consultant respiratory physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital and honorary senior lecturer at Imperial College London. He specialises in interstitial lung diseases, sarcoidosis and other complex or rare pulmonary conditions. He has published papers and book chapters in his specialist areas.

Dr Elizabeth Renzoni

Dr Renzoni is an ILD specialist working in the Royal Brompton Hospital ILD Unit. Key clinical specialist interests include sarcoidosis, idiopathic and connective tissue disease associated ILD, hypersensitivity pneumonitis. Key research interests include prognostic and outcome biomarkers in lung fibrosis across ILD entities, as well as research into the effects of supplemental oxygen in fibrotic lung diseases. She has participated as co-author to the ATS/JRS/ALAT clinical practice guideline group for the diagnosis of hypersensitivity pneumonitis, and to the ATS clinical practice guidelines on use of supplemental oxygen in chronic respiratory diseases. She is a member of the ERS task force for genetics in pulmonary fibrosis. She is an Associate Editor for Respirology. She currently chairs the European Respiratory Society group for diffuse lung diseases of known origin (12.02).

Dr Peter George

Dr Peter George is a consultant respiratory physician and clinical lead for interstitial lung disease at Royal Brompton Hospital. He is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College and a member of the BTS specialist advisory group for interstitial lung disease. His clinical and research interests are idiopathic and connective tissue disease associated ILD, sarcoidosis and hypersensitivity pneumonitis and he has focused on the overlap between the pulmonary vasculature and interstitium an area which may be particular pertinent to sarcoidosis.

Dr Rakesh Sharma

Dr Rakesh Sharma is a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital and Cardiology Lead for Cardiac Sarcoidosis.

He qualified in 1995 with triple honours from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School (now part of King’s College London) and was Proxime Accesit to the University of London Gold Medal. He underwent postgraduate training at tertiary centres in London.

Dr Sharma was awarded a British Heart Foundation fellowship to study his PhD in cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. For his research, he won the Young Investigator Prize at the American Heart Association.

Dr Victoria Singh-Curry

Dr Victoria Singh-Curry is a neurologist specialising in neuro-inflammatory disorders, including neuro-sarcoidosis. She works at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and runs the joint neurology-sarcoidosis clinic at the Royal Brompton Hospital with Dr Kouranos.

Professor Athol Wells

Professor Athol Wells is a consultant in respiratory medicine at Royal Brompton Hospital and highly regarded as the lead professor for sarcoidosis the UK. He is also the principal editor or co-editor of three books including Sarcoidosis (CRC Press, 2012).
